The City of Nawabs, Lucknow, holds many surprises in store for shoppers. That Lucknow is beyond kebabs and biryani can be felt in its sprawling markets. These markets are centuries-old and have such variety of items to buy, that you wouldn’t have guessed. They are the best bazaars where you can bargain and go on a shopping spree. So here is the list of the best shopping places in Lucknow.

1. Hazratganj

This century-old bazaar in the centre of Lucknow has seen a transformation from its more traditional avatar in the olden days. Today, there are large shopping malls, glamorous showrooms, cinema halls, factory outlets, restaurants.

Not a place for bargaining, there are branded shops for every type of consumer durables. Janpath, Seva Chikan, Lovelane, Sahara Mall are the top shopping destinations to buy a lot of specialities. The market remains closed on Sundays.

What to buy: Chikankari, hand-made kurtas/kurtis, embroidered sarees, ornaments, khadi.

  2. Aminabad 


A market that’s seen the illustrious times of the Nawabs, Aminabad Market is the busiest and the oldest shopping hub of Lucknow. It is a delight for bargain shopping. You get every kind of consumer items here, from home utilities, utensils, chikan sarees, men’s wear, food items, books, artificial jewellery to local handicrafts.

Madan Sarees, Dupatta Mahal, Sargodha Cloth House, Om Prakash Seth, are the oldest shops here. While shopping, drop into some eateries and bakeries like Wahid Biryani and Alamgir, Kalika Chat House. The market remains closed on Thursdays.

What to buy: Chikan Kurta, sarees, footwear, jewellery, ornaments, fashion garments, wedding accessories.


3. Chowk 



This age-old market in Lucknow is situated close to Bara Imambara. If you love authentic chikankari garments, this is the right place to go. You can order custom-designed pieces here as well.

It is also the best place for handicraft items like lamp shades, ittar (perfumes), wall paintings, which you get at pocket-friendly rates. The market remains closed on Thursdays.

What to buy: Handicrafts, Chikankari garments, perfumes, zardozi garments, footwear, flowers. 

4. Nakhas 


This 200-year-old market in Lucknow sells everything from garments, electronics, kitchen items and other consumer goods. But it is more famous for the gorgeous zardozi garments, wooden handicrafts and jewellery. You also get foods, groceries, pet animals and birds.

On Sundays, there is a huge flea market over here selling second-hand goods, wooden items, jewellery, garments etc. There are food stalls too offering paan, biryanis, kebabs and other delicacies.

What to buy: Zardozi embroidered garments, handicrafts, jewellery.

5. Bhootnath Market 


One of the most popular markets in Lucknow is Bhootnath Market. Whether you want kitchen utensils, jewellery, fruits or vegetables, spices, you get them here. Though you will have to bargain a bit, it is worth the effort. There are fast food joints and restaurants like Bikanervala, Punjabi Choolha and others serving Chinese, North Indian, chaat, and South Indian delicacies.

What to buy: Apparels, kitchen utilities, household items.
